TERZO CONGRESSO NAZIONALE SULLA DIAGNOSI E CURA DELLA SARCOIDOSI

Parte la terza edizione del CONGRESSO NAZIONALE SULLA DIAGNOSI E CURA DELLA SARCOIDOSI, quest’anno dedicato a “Le comorbidità e l’approccio olistico alla malattia”.

La sarcoidosi è una malattia granulomatosa cronica sistemica caratterizzata da una grande eterogeneità clinica; infatti, in alcuni casi la patologia è asintomatica, viene scoperta per puro caso e guarisce spontaneamente, in altri rappresenta una vera e propria sfida diagnostica e terapeutica. In questi casi, che rappresentano circa un terzo della totalità dei pazienti, la morbidità della sarcoidosi è molto elevata sia a causa dele sue manifestazioni cliniche che per gli effetti collaterali dei corticosteroidi, i farmaci di gran lunga più utilizzati per il suo trattamento. Questo si traduce in una compromissione della qualità di vita e, trattandosi quasi sempre di soggetti in età lavorativa, in una ridotta produttività con inevitabili conseguenze socioeconomiche. La sarcoidosi è considerata una malattia rara; certamente, è una malattia orfana principalmente a causa della (errata) convinzione che la patologia sia benigna e che solo raramente richieda una terapia.

Un aspetto spesso sottovalutato della malattia è rappresentato dalle comorbidità che contribuiscono a compromettere la qualità di vita del paziente e a complicarne la gestione. Il carattere sistemico della sarcoidosi e le comorbidità richiedono un approccio multidisciplinare alla patologia e questo può essere garantito solo nei centri di riferimento che, oltre a prendere in carico il paziente “complesso”, sono coinvolti in attività di ricerca e nella sperimentazione di nuovi farmaci.

Con queste premesse ed in continuità con il lavoro iniziato negli anni precedenti, gli argomenti principali della III edizione del congresso, a cui parteciperanno i maggiori esperti nazionali e internazionali, saranno gli aspetti psicologici e sociali (oltre che medici) della sarcoidosi, le comorbidità (incluse alcune tra quelle meno esplorate) e l’approccio multidisciplinare alla patologia. Non mancheranno tuttavia dei cenni alla ricerca di base e alle nuove prospettive terapeutiche con l’auspicio che si possa trovare presto una vera cura per le persone affette da sarc

The third edition of the NATIONAL CONGRESS ON THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF SARCOIDOSIS, this year dedicated to ‘Comorbidities and the holistic approach to the disease’, is starting.

Sarcoidosis is a chronic systemic granulomatous disease characterised by great clinical heterogeneity; indeed, in some cases the disease is asymptomatic, is discovered by chance and heals spontaneously, in others it represents a real diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. In these cases, which account for around a third of all patients, the morbidity of sarcoidosis is very high both because of its clinical manifestations and because of the side effects of corticosteroids, by far the most commonly used drugs for its treatment. This translates into a compromised quality of life and, as they are almost always of working age, reduced productivity with inevitable socio-economic consequences.

Sarcoidosis is considered a rare disease; certainly, it is an orphan disease mainly due to the (mis)belief that the disease is benign and only rarely requires treatment.

An often underestimated aspect of the disease is the comorbidities that contribute to compromising the patient’s quality of life and complicating its management. The systemic nature of sarcoidosis and the comorbidities require a multidisciplinary approach to the disease, and this can only be guaranteed in reference centres which, in addition to taking care of the ‘complex’ patient, are involved in research activities and the testing of new drugs.

With these premises and in continuity with the work begun in previous years, the main topics of the 3rd edition of the congress, which will be attended by leading national and international experts, will be the psychological and social (as well as medical) aspects of sarcoidosis, comorbidities (including some of the less explored ones) and the multidisciplinary approach to the disease. However, there will be no lack of references to basic research and new therapeutic perspectives with the hope that a real cure will soon be found for people with sarcoidosis.

Come i soci già sanno, non è permesso per legge assistere alle conferenze a chi non fosse medico.Pertanto, ACSI ha fatto in modo che ai soci venga dedicata tutta la mattina del sabato 20 aprile.

In un ambiente dedicato, separato dalle sale delle conferenze mediche, alcuni fra gli specialisti relatori alle sessioni scientifiche, incontreranno i pazienti per una ‘scuola di sarcoidosi’ tutta speciale e a loro dedicata.

As members and patients already know, it is not permitted by law for non-medics to attend conferences. Therefore, ACSI has arranged for the entire morning of Saturday 20 April to be dedicated to members.

In a dedicated room, separate from the medical conference rooms, some of the specialists speaking at the scientific sessions will meet patients for a special ‘sarcoidosis school’ dedicated to them.
